Shining a Spotlight on Every Talent:

My Journey to Creating Dente's Dreamers, an Inclusive Production Company

For over 13 years as a special education teacher with the NYC Department of Education, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the incredible potential of my students—talents that often go unnoticed or overlooked. For me, the stage has always been a place of magic and transformation, and it became a way for my students to find their voices and shine.

The theater has been an integral part of my life and my family’s story. Growing up, I always had the unwavering support of my parents—my biggest fans, both in the classroom and beyond. Their love for the arts, and for supporting others, was something they passed down to me. That’s why the name Dente's Dreamers feels so fitting for this new chapter. It comes from my family’s last name, my maiden name, as a tribute to my parents’ constant belief in me and their dedication to uplifting my students.

In the past I was honored to be able to direct shows, support the arts in any and every way I could along with allowing my students to not only embrace their differences but also allowing them to HONOR their abilities. In the shows, which the community still speaks about, where my students took center stage as the lead cast, with the general school population in supporting roles. These performances weren’t just about putting on a show; they were life-changing for everyone involved. The chance to perform, to be seen, to feel heard—it transformed my students' confidence and self-worth, while uniting the entire school community in the process. Seeing my student’s parents along with my own parents beaming with pride is something I will never forget.

Now, I’m excited to take this mission to a larger stage: Dente’s Dreamers, a non-profit, all-inclusive production company. Our goal is to provide individuals, regardless of ability, the opportunity to shine—not just on stage, but throughout the entire creative process. From the initial brainstorming sessions to writing, set design, rehearsals, and the final performance, we’ll be with our participants every step of the way, offering a hands-on, supportive environment.

But we’re not just about performing. At Dente’s Dreamers, we believe in the power of teamwork and the valuable life lessons that come from working behind the scenes. Our participants will have the opportunity to learn and grow in all areas of production—from building sets and creating props to working as stage crew, publicity, costume design, and even directing or choreographing the show. Every role is important, and every individual will be given the chance to discover their unique talents and contribute to the magic that brings a production to life.

We believe in the power of community, creativity, and inclusion, and we’re committed to ensuring that every participant, no matter their background or abilities, can find their voice, the right dance steps and their place in the spotlight, and a valuable role in creating something truly special.
